Paul Ryan Warns Republicans of Potential Defeat if Trump is Nominated

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan has issued a warning to Republicans, stating that if Donald Trump is nominated as the presidential candidate, the party will lose the election. Ryan, who left office in 2019 and had a contentious relationship with Trump, expressed his hope that another Republican nominee would gain enough momentum to overtake Trump after the initial primaries. Speaking at an event on the University of Wisconsin campus, Ryan emphasized that the party that puts forward a fresh face will have a better chance of winning the election.

Regarding a potential race between Trump and President Joe Biden, Ryan stated, “I think Biden wins.” He further criticized Trump, stating that he does not possess the qualities of honesty, ethics, and morality expected from a leader. Expression his concerns about swing states like Wisconsin, Ryan believes that winning over suburban voters will be crucial. He questioned whether these voters, who did not vote for Trump in the previous election, would be inclined to support him again, particularly after the events of January 6th.

Ryan also had strong words for Trump’s followers in Congress, accusing them of being disinterested in governance and lacking a real solution to prevent a government shutdown. With just five days left until the government shutdown deadline, the Senate is working to avoid a closure, while hard-right lawmakers take control of the House. A bipartisan stopgap measure has been proposed to temporarily fund offices until November 17th to allow Congress more time to complete its work. Ryan, who was the speaker of the House during the last government shutdown in 2018, expressed his concern that a shutdown might occur due to the interests of certain individuals.

Finally, Ryan faulted Republicans in Congress for not proposing an alternative and criticized their lack of governance. He referred to their actions as nihilism and stated that it makes the party appear foolish and unable to effectively govern.

In conclusion, Paul Ryan’s warning to Republicans highlights the potential consequences of nominating Donald Trump as the party’s presidential candidate. He believes that a fresh face and a candidate who embodies honesty and ethics are crucial to secure victory in the election. Ryan’s concerns extend to the government shutdown deadline and lack of proposed alternatives by Republicans in Congress. These warnings serve as a cautionary note for the party’s future prospects.
