Mary Lou Retton’s Fundraising Efforts Receive Generous Support from Olympic Fans

Olympic gymnastics champion Mary Lou Retton is currently in intensive care, battling a rare form of pneumonia.

In a recent Instagram post, Retton’s daughters expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and donations from thousands of fans who are helping to cover their mother’s medical expenses.

Shayla Kelley Schrepfer, Retton’s oldest daughter, shared a video update on Instagram, expressing the family’s gratitude and stating that the outpouring of love for her mother has meant the world to them.

In just 24 hours, nearly 5,000 people have donated over $275,000 to Retton’s online fundraiser. The initial goal was to raise $50,000 to assist with her medical care. It was revealed that Retton does not have medical insurance.

While Schrepfer did not provide specific details about Retton’s condition, she did mention that it will be a day-to-day process.

Retton, who made history as the first American woman to win the Olympic all-around title at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, is also known for earning five medals during her Olympic career and becoming a pop culture sensation.

Retton retired from competition in 1986 but continued to make appearances in film and television, including a memorable stint on “Dancing with the Stars.”

Retton’s fundraising efforts have garnered significant support from fans who still admire her athleticism and are eager to contribute to her well-being.
