Elon Musk’s Company Sues Media Matters for Alleged Fabrication of ‘Nazi’ Scandal

Elon Musk’s social media platform X has filed a lawsuit against Media Matters, accusing the liberal media group of fabricating posts that showed major companies’ ads appearing next to Nazi content in an attempt to drive away business.

The lawsuit claims that Media Matters manipulated its account to limit the users it followed and tricked X’s algorithm into displaying major brands’ content alongside extremist material. X accuses Media Matters of knowingly and maliciously creating these images to drive advertisers away from the platform, and states that major brands like Apple, IBM, Comcast, and NBCUniversal pulled their ads as a result of Media Matters’ report.

While X promotes free speech, it also has safeguards in place to prevent major advertisers’ material from being placed alongside hateful content. The company claims that Media Matters intentionally broke these safeguards and manufactured a situation that was possible in less than one-millionth of 1% of cases.

The lawsuit was filed in a federal district court in Fort Worth, Texas, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he is investigating Media Matters for potential fraud under a state deceptive practices law.

Media Matters was formed in 2004 as a liberal watchdog on news outlets, and Elon Musk’s ownership of X has put the company in Media Matters’ crosshairs.
